I can say that Unleash the Power Within has been the most life-changing weekends ever.
***February 2018 update — Unequivocally the best weekend ever. I still stay in contact with tons of people from the event and have used the event as a catalyst to change my life!
Here’s what it was like to spend time with the best motivational speaker in the world Tony Robbins!
Tony Robbin’s – Unleash the Power Within Seminar Review
A Great Start To The Event
I took a quick flight out from Phoenix, Arizona on Thursday, the first day of the Unleash the Power Within 2017 seminar. In the LA traffic, I told my Uber driver about the event and he immediately recognized the name Tony Robbins and said he has dropped off other passengers there before. He had a passenger last year after the event who told him how life-changing the event had been.
We bonded over entrepreneurship, podcasts, and other personal development speakers. He mentioned that sometimes he’d go to Barnes and Noble to read books as he couldn’t always afford them with three kids.
Once I was getting dropped off I realized I had to help, instinct took over. After reading some of Tony’s stuff previously I knew the philosophy was “the secret to living is giving.” I decided to give my driver my copy of “Unshakeable” that I had purchased a few weeks ago. The driver was beside himself and couldn’t thank me enough for the book.
Once I got to registration is was organized chaos. People everywhere, good signage and event team members high-fiving everyone. I got checked in under 10 minutes as it was only 745am with the event not set to begin until 12. The best part?
My registration bag included a copy of the book I just gave away. Talk about instant gratification for paying it forward? I knew it was a sign to start a great weekend.
Day 1 – “Turn Fear Into Power”
After checking into my hotel I got back to the event at 11 am, one hour before the start of Unleash the Power Within. I grabbed a seat and took in the atmosphere of the Galen Center in downtown Los Angeles. I had no idea what to expect nor did anyone else around me.
It was unlike anything I’d ever seen. Within 10 minutes we were jumping up and down, dancing, high-fiving, cheering and ready to go. All 9,000 people from 62 countries were fully engaged. Seriously, every single person was ready, even Kim Kardashian and Kanye West. Tony Robbins led us through a powerful first day — the atmosphere was unlike anything I’ve ever seen.
The first day was incredible. We covered a ton of content and Tony made it very easy to apply each topic to your own individual life.
By 11 pm (nearly 12 hours later) we were still going strong and the energy of the arena was contagious. We were in a “peak state” and ready to finally do the epic firewalk.
Walking on Fire
We got a full hour demo of what to expect for the iconic firewalk. Yes, 9,000 people were going to head outside to walk over 30 lanes of hot coals.
The firewalk is a metaphor for your life. We are told that if you walk on fire you will get burnt, but what if that’s not true?
The instructions seemed pretty straightforward in the arena — don’t look down, don’t run, and brush your feet off once you finish the walk. But once we walked a few blocks to the staging area some doubt had settled in.
Was I ready to walk on fire? What if I got blisters or seriously burnt?
Once I overcame my limiting beliefs I made it happen!
After easily walking through the hot coals I was sold, the experience was absolutely amazing. The first night was complete and it was nearly 1 am by the time I got home. What an epic 13 hours — I would have paid full admission for the first day alone!
Day 2 – Turn Dreams Into Reality
I woke up confused and excited. Did that happen yesterday? Did I walk through the fire at midnight in downtown LA? Yes, yes I did.
I got to the event at 9 am on day two, ready to go. Instead of Tony speaking we had his partner Joseph Mclendon III. I won’t lie, I was disappointed at first. No Tony Robbins on day two?
Joseph explained that it was because of Tony doing events over three decades his vocal cords are wrecked and needed 24 hours between speaking. Much to my surprise, the day turned out to be incredible.
Even though we didn’t get Tony live they had pre-recorded talks, guest speakers, and the same vibrant atmosphere. 9,000 people were still jumping up and down, screaming at the top of their lungs and taking in all the information delivered.
The morning sessions focused on how you can accomplish your goals no matter how big they might seem. We also focused on mastering your finances for yourself and your business. We also had a great guest speaker, Mike Melio, who told us about his life story and the impact Tony has had on him. Listen to his full story here, as it’s insane and incredibly motivating.
The end of the night focused on your peer group and the impact of the people you hang out with the most. We ended on time at 930pm, still a full 12 hours.
Overall day two was another success, a ton of great content and fully prepared for the biggest part of Unleash the Power Within — day three!
Day 3 – Break Through To Your New Life
Saturday, I woke up refreshed and ready to go. After coffee and a quick workout I got to the event I got to the event at 930am. The energy Saturday was insane.
Tony Robbins has more energy than any human being I’ve ever witnessed. Seriously, we had two short breaks for food but he went 16 hours straight! It felt like an hour, I wish any time went as fast as it did on transformation day.
My favorite Tony Robbins quote from the day was,“If you want life to change you gotta change. If you want things to get better you gotta get better. That’s the only way it’s going to happen.”
We focused on a variety of topics today. The morning session focused on “The Pyramid of Mastery” which forced us to break out all areas of your life:
- Physical Body
- Emotions and Meaning
- Spiritual Sense & Contributions
The afternoon session is was the highlight of the event. I personally found what I was looking for from the event and I saw the same from everyone around me. I won’t get into specifics for the respect to my fellow UPW’s but it was intense. It was the moment 9,000 people paid for, the moment we conquered all our fears.
The event went another two hours until 130 am. Like I said, Tony Robbins isn’t human — his energy and conviction in everything is contagious.
Day 4 – The Power of Pure Energy
The last day was bittersweet walking into the arena. The past three days we all accomplished so much and was sad to say goodbyes to so many people. Since Saturday was so late we didn’t get started until 1030am.
The content of the final day was based 100% on your body, health, and the power of pure energy. Tony was not in attendance but there were several videos of him from different seminars. He discussed how he is able to maintain crazy amounts of energy while traveling around the world after 30 years. It was all great information, easy to apply and as a fitness nut, all stuff I would agree with.
By 7 pm my first Tony Robbins Unleash The Power Within event was complete.
Tony Robbin Seminar: Top Lessons
Here are the 16 things I learned after walking on fire with Tony Robbins.
Training Never Stops
Why is it that when most people graduate they stop learning?
My guess is that we are taught to dread education and learning. We are forced to learn a lot of pointless subjects that will have zero real-world use. The problem is that it creates a habit where people don’t like learning.
This is why the average American watches 4.3 hours of TV per day and only reads a few books a year (at most).
But learning shouldn’t end when you throw your graduation cap — it should just begin.
Don’t let schooling interfere with your education.” — Mark Twain
Focus on Your State
While some people think Tony Robbins is a positive hype man he actually hates “positive thinking.” Instead, he focuses on staying in a peak state. Getting and maintaining a peak state is very different than positive thinking.
Start by changing….
- Physiology — Do you feel better when you are walking with your chin up and chest out or slumped down in your chair? Obviously the first, your feelings are directly related to your movement. Next time you find yourself in a bad mood realize what your body is doing and change it! Focus on taking deep breaths, go for a walk, or force yourself to smile.
- Language — Your brain is always listening to what you say, both internally and to others. Choose your words wisely and be aware of the questions you are asking yourself.
- Focus — As Tony said, “Focus goes where energy flows.” Don’t focus on problems only the solutions.
Little Adjustments = BIG Changes
Tony gave a golfing example that most people can easily relate, even if you’re not Tiger Woods. If the club hits the ball even 2 millimeters off it can go 10–30 yards offline. The same goes for your life.
One small adjustment can make all the difference in any area of life. If you’re a writer one tweak to your headlines and you might have an article go viral. If you’re trying to lose weight one new fitness routine could help you finally create lasting change.
Master Your Mornings
Morning routines are one of the easiest ways to make lasting change and drastically improve your life.
If you win the morning you win the day” — Brian Sharma
Everyone will have a different routine — it’s important to find what works for you. Here is a quick morning routine Tony refers to as “priming.” As he said,“If you don’t have 10 minutes for yourself you don’t have a life.”
- Focus on 3 things you are grateful for (1 minute each).
- Think about 3 things you want to create. Envision your goals as already complete. (1 min each)
- Practice “Breath of Fire” — 3 sets of 30 seconds each. Once you change your breathing you will change your physiology and give yourself energy for the day.
The 80/20 Of Success
If you’re unfamiliar with the 80/20 rule (known as the Pareto Principle) it basically says that for many events roughly 80% of the effects come from 20% of the causes.
80% of your income is earned from 20% of the work that you complete.
The same goes for success.
As Tony said, “Success in life is 80% psychology and only 20% mechanics.”
Playing Small Doesn’t Make People Bigger
Have you ever found yourself in a great mood until you run into someone in your life where you feel like you have to take it down a notch? I know I have and it sucks.
Don’t let anyone dictate your mood. Don’t sink to their level to make them feel better. Create the rule in your life that you will never change your mood to match someone else’s unless you are going up.
Success Leaves Clues
Chances are, whatever you want to achieve someone has already done it in some capacity or another. Model these people to accelerate your own success. There is no need to reinvent the wheel.
If you want to create an epic website, reach out to people you admire and ask what they did. Buy their course, watch their videos, and find ways to get them to mentor you.
If you want to lose 30 pounds find someone who has already done it. Figure out what they ate, how often they exercised, and if they had a trainer.
Find a coach or mentor to help speed things up!
Don’t Forget the Law of Familiarity
Everyone has been guilty of this at some point in their lives. The Law of Familiarity states that “Things that form patterns that are familiar or meaningful are likely to be grounded together.”
Don’t take things you love in your life for granted. Your spouse, dog, parents, car, health, etc. Practice gratitude every single day, tell people you love them, buy your dog the biggest treat you can find.
Spoil the people you love — never take them for granted just because you see them on a consistent basis.
Progress = Happiness
Whether you are $30,000 in debt or worth a $1 million dollars, people want to feel like they are progressing in life. Think about the last time you were frustrated or upset with where your life was…you probably felt “stuck” right?
That is totally natural, human beings want to make progress, regardless of where you are in life. Try to do something every single day that helps you progress towards your goals.
Don’t let your happiness depend on others, instead strive to make progress on yourself and your goals. This will allow you to be better at work, with relationships, friends, and increase your overall happiness.
Suffering Breeds Suffering
Have you ever complained, whined or moped around and a situation magically got better? I’m guessing no…
Don’t stay in a state of suffering, it will only bring more into your life. Life isn’t perfect…people will let you down, accidents will happen, and you will make mistakes. The next time something happens to make you sad, mad, fearful or angry give yourself 60–90 seconds. Understand why it made you mad and focus on how you can fix it.
Change your physiology by going for a short walk, taking some deep breaths and focus on something you are grateful for in your life. You can’t be grateful & suffer at the same time — its impossible.
“When you are grateful, fear disappears and abundance appears.” — Tony Robbins
Your Past Doesn’t Equal Your Future
You’re not one moment in your past. You will never create a successful future if you’re always dwelling on the past.
If you made a mistake and you are still alive you can fix it. Some of the most successful people in the world had the hardest, most extremely difficult pasts ever.
Guard Your Inner Circle
Your life is a direct reflection of your peer group in almost any area.
As T. Harv Eker said in “The Millionaire Mind”, “Most people earn within 20 percent of the average income of their closest friends.”
Your network is your net worth.” — Jim Rohn
If you surround yourself with positive, ambitious, and wealthy people you will become one of them. On the other hand, if you hang out with broke, pessimistic and negative people you will become one of them.
Surround yourself with people who lift you up — your happiness, attitude and bank account will thank you.
Be Your Own Biggest Fan
When’s the last time you patted yourself on the back or clapped for something awesome you did or accomplished? Tony had us do this during the seminar and found it extremely powerful.
The next time you reach a goal, kick ass in a meeting or nail a speech applaud, clap, and love yourself. You have to become your own biggest fan! This reaction will affirm to your mind that you are on the right track and will want to replicate these feelings in the future.
Only Compare Yourself to Yourself
It’s so easy to compare yourself to other people you work with, went to school with, or lifelong friends. While it might inspire you occasionally, constant comparison with others will lead to an unfulfilling life.
The only person you should ever compare yourself to is your former self.
Focus on Fulfillment
“Success without fulfillment is the ultimate failure.” — Tony Robbins
Tony gave a chilling speech about success vs. fulfillment in regards to Robin Williams suicide. You can watch it here as well.
It’s possible to be successful and miserable, it happens to people all the time. Don’t get so caught up in being successful that you forget to focus on what fulfills you as well.
Grow to Give
Tony is a huge giver as someone once fed his family as a kid which changed his life forever. He now feeds millions of people each year through his foundations and other charitable efforts.
The reason you should focus on growth is that once you grow you give. The biggest philanthropists in the world are also the richest. Not only can you help contribute money but other resources and connections to help change more lives.
“The secret to living is giving.” — Tony Robbins
Tony Robbins – Unleash the Power Within Review: Do I Recommend?
Overall, I can say it was the most impactful weekend of my entire life. This live seminar will open your mind to new possibilities. If you can’t attend this even try to find a day event with Tony to help you start taking massive action.
Tony Robbins and his team deserve an incredible amount of recognition for their hard work and incredibly organized seminar. The atmosphere was amazing, the audience was incredible, and the results will last a lifetime.
My new goal is to make such a significant impact on my life financially that I will be able to attend the other four seminars by 2022. Including Date with Destiny!
Although there are some intense moments, his entire goal is to help you find the best version of yourself. His books, cd’s, and Youtube videos are great but attending Unleash the Power Within is a life-changing event. Being around 8,999 other people who want the best life is incredibly inspiring! Plus you get to learn more about their individual coaching programs!
The event will make you get out of your comfort zone and ask yourself the hard questions. I am so glad I attended UPW 2017 in Los Angeles!
Yes, there is constant dancing, positive vibes & loud music. No there isn’t kool-aid. Tony is the real deal, what he’s achieved is truly inspiring and his team is there to show you to make your life better. Without a doubt the best money I’ve ever spent.
Remember, the best investment you can make is always investing in yourself.
