FINCON was an amazing experience. When I left the event and told other people about my FINCON experience the more it sounded like an awesome, secret underground society.
Fincon is a blogging conference comprised of mainly personal finance bloggers. They meet up every year and share their successes, have breakout sessions, and a great opportunity to meet other bloggers in real life.
To most people blogging and online businesses are as mythical as the Loch Ness monster. When I told people outside the blogging community about Fincon they just seemed confused.
The couldn’t believe that people were making $10,000 or $100,000 from a website.
Most of all FINCON showed me that life without rules or a boss is 100% possible.
I’ve seen first hand that making six figures a year (or even a month) is possible.
For most people “working at home and making millions” sounds like a pipe dream. Like a mythical land, a clickbait headline or a fantasy you might have daydreamed about when you are bored at work.
Prior to 2016, I wouldn’t have ever believed that this lifestyle was possible. I figured you had to start a company or be a college dropout to have that kind of freedom and success.
After attending FINCON last week I saw firsthand that people truly live the “laptop lifestyle” and earn money while helping people around the world.
Making Money Online Is Possible
The single biggest takeaway from the event was that it is 100% possible to make money working at home in your pajamas.
I met so many people that make money in so many different ways thanks to the internet.
Here are just a few of the ways that my fellow online entrepreneurs were making money online:
Most of the people at the event did have a blog and are monetizing it in some way or another. Some of them make 100% of their income from it while others use it as a “home” for them online.
There are tons of ways to make money with your blog including affiliate income, courses, advertising, and sponsorships.
If you want to start a blog learn how you can get started in less than 10 minutes here.
Thus far I’ve self-published two different books thanks to Amazon. There are services like “Createspace” and Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP) that make it easy to get your worked published.
Have you wanted to start a side hustle online without wanting to write and be a blogger? Podcasting is your answer.
I met full-time podcasters who are making a good living with a weekly podcast. You can monetize podcasts several ways and you can reach a large audience thanks to Itunes.
While it still requires a lot of persistence (like blogging) it’s a fun platform and you have the ability to speak or interview others on your show.
Freelance writing is the ultimate work at home in your pajamas type of job and there is an unreal amount of potential.
I was lucky enough to meet Holly from Earn More Writing who regularly earns over $200,000 as a top freelance writer.
Be sure to check out her site and course if you want to get started freelance writing.
I thought I was a “hustler” but I got put in my place at this event.
So many people are hungry for success and work their ass off to achieve early retirement or self employment…. It was super inspiring!
For example, Kevin from Financial Panther, had a break in between workshops and went on his app and used Wag to find a quick dog walking opportunity and make a few bucks…amazing! He was featured on my site last year for paying off over $80,000 of student loan debt in 2.5 years.
I met COUNTLESS other people that had similar debt stories and loved to learn more about how they hustled, budgeted, and paid off huge loans in a short amount of time.
Learn to Collaborate
If there is any downside to working at home it would be loneliness, some people would not be able to work at home alone day in and day out. Honestly, I’m reaching my six-month point and haven’t minded as I golf and stay active but others might not have those outlets.
That being said it’s always great to meet people trying to achieve what you’re doing for inspiration and new ideas.
As Porter Gale said, “Your network is your net worth.”
Whether you have a traditional job, side hustle, or self-employed there is a tremendous value in networking with others. You can learn from them, find new ways to problems, and grow your network.
Fincon was a great networking event and think everyone can benefit from growing their network…to hopefully grow their net worth 🙂
Always Be Learning
I’ve been fascinated with studying successful people this year and they all have one thing in common: they are always learning and investing in themselves.
Whether it’s reading a book a week, taking courses, or attending seminars all successful people are always learning!
If not, how else are you advancing your life forward? Otherwise, you’re coasting and the only way to “coast” is to go downhill.
Warren Buffet said it best, “The best investment you can make is in yourself.”
I met people that traveled from Australia, Singapore, and even the Czech Republic. People understood that this conference was a way to learn something new and connect with like-minded people.
Whatever industry you are in or passion you have there are always ways to be learning more. Find events in your area, take an online course, or join a club.
Rejection Is Part Of Life
Last month I attended Jack Canfield’s “One Day to Greatness” where he said something I will always remember:
“Rejection doesn’t exist. You never had it in the first place.”
I absolutely love this. Almost all of the speakers at FINCON have overcome hardship, rejection, and adversity to achieve greatness.
Today it’s easier than ever to get down on yourself when you’re rejected in life. Whether you didn’t the promotion you wanted, the person you asked on a date said no, or you got told no from a client…it’s part of life.
Why dwell on it? You never had “whatever it was” in the first place.
These bloggers, writers, and financial gurus have all faced rejection in some way or another and moved on. Don’t dwell when you’re “rejected” — accept it and keep moving forward.
Follow Your Passion
To me, following your passion is the key to living your truly best life. One that will motivate you, inspire you, and end your life with no regrets.
I’m not alone — the keynote speaker and 9X best-selling author David Bach, said the same thing as he closed his speech.
As he put it, “Follow your passions and the profits will come.”
If you’re following your passion(s) in one way or another congrats to you. Following your passion doesn’t have to be your full-time job but pursuing it in one way or another will have tremendous benefits.
Final Thoughts on FINCON 2017
Fincon was an amazing overall experience and taught me that anything is possible in life. With the internet, you no longer have to settle for a job you hate.
If five years ago you would have told me that thousands of people who make money online meetup to discuss how awesome it is, I wouldn’t have believed anyone.
But the people I met at FINCON were genuinely great people who love to help others with their finances and businesses.
If this is something you might be interested in FINCON will be in Orlando September 26-29th, 2018.
Is FINCON something you would attend? Can you believe that so many people make so much money online?
If you want to start a side hustle or be full-time self-employed what is holding you back?
Let me know in the comments.
