Birthday Goals

I’d like to share my birthday goals for my 30th birthday to help inspire your success!

Do you like goal setting or do you find yourself more likely to accomplish your goals when you write them down? Instead of just goal setting what if you shared them with a friend, family member or the entire internet?

After reading Project Life Mastery monthly goal report I realized how beneficial it would be to list my goals for my upcoming 30th birthday. I want to be as transparent for you as I can. I’ve made a ton of mistakes but done a lot right since quitting my six-figure job to work as a solopreneur.

I also had a guest post from Finance Superhero last year that helped inspire this post on goal setting.

My goal is to help inspire you or help accomplish a goal you have in your life.

Goal Setting Facts

I’ve been actively setting and writing down my goals for the past decade. After researching and adapting my goal setting style I have found these tactics give you the best chances to reach your goals:

  • Write goals down in YOUR handwriting. Seeing your goals in your handwriting is a psychological trick to your brain.
  • SMART goal setting is good except for the “R.” Don’t be realistic about setting birthday goals, dream big! And be as specific as possible.
  • Sharing your goals with friends and family increases the likelihood of achieving them by giving you accountability.
  • Write each goal as it is already completed. After reading “The Success Principles” I learned the importance of “I AM” affirmations and the effect they have on your subconscious mind.

Here are my birthday goals for my 30th year on Earth.

Ever since I started setting birthday goals I seem to get more motivation and inspiration. I love to see how much I can achieve in a year #goals #smartgoals #goalsetting #birthdaygoals #birthday

Financial Birthday Goals

Max out Roth IRA

I am maxing out my Roth IRA with the maximum contribution limit of $5,500.

This is always a goal each year and I haven’t missed since I opened my Roth with Vanguard in 2012.

Average $6,000 Per Month

I am earning an average of $6,000 per month from online income and side hustles.

Right now I’m still in the building phase when it comes to making money online. I’ve spent very little time monetizing my site. Instead, I’ve tried to learn about all the ways to make money online and learn new skills.

In my first month, I made over $2,000 from book sales, side hustles, and affiliate advertising. To average $6,000 per month over the next 12 months I will need to provide more value and keep learning new skills

Start an Investment Property Fund

I am starting a new savings account and contribute to buying a rental property.

After becoming a first-time homeowner at 27 years old I have loved the benefits that come with homeownership. I want to start saving for a vacation rental and potentially use Airbnb as a model to rent out and earn money from passive income.

Health & Fitness Goals

Run a 5K

I am easily finishing my second 5K ever for a good cause.

I was able to find a 5K in September and is for a great cause. The 5K will be raising money to support Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. This is also a great prep for my next goal below.

*September 2017 Update: Completed

Complete My First Triathlon

I am finishing my first ever triathlon.

As someone who hates running, isn’t good at swimming and likes riding bikes to happy hour this is an ambitious goal. The past few months I’ve been able to lose a lot of weight with a new diet and exercise program so I figured why not.

Check out my e-book on Amazon “Low Carb Diet and Cookbook” to see how I lost 12 pounds in 21 days!

Make six figures online

I found a sprint triathlon on October 7th and have registered to compete — wish me luck.

*October 2017 Update — Completed!

Maintain Weight Under 180 Pounds

I am keeping my weight under 180 pounds and continue to be a lean athlete.

Thanks to a ton of hard work I was able to lose 25 pounds (200 lbs —> 175 lbs) since January 2016. I want to maintain my weight under 180 pounds.

Blog Goals

Grow My Social Media Presence

I am significantly growing my social media presence on every channel to impact more lives.

I have focused mostly on Pinterest and Facebook much more than Instagram, Pinterest or Youtube. My goal is to significantly increase each following.

  • Pinterest: 250 followers — Goal is 1,000 by end of year
  • Facebook: 265 fans — Goal is 1,000 by end of year
  • Instagram: 224 followers — Goal is 1,000 by end of year and re-set.
  • Twitter: 1,764 followers — Goal is 5,000 by end of year & re-set goal
  • Youtube: Zero, see goal below.

Be on a TV show promoting my book

I am appearing as a guest on a TV show to promote my book.

I have done a TERRIBLE job promoting my book, Advice for My Younger Self. Write it and people will read it is NOT the way to go about promoting a book. I’ve started emailing networks and hope to get out there and help others.

Be on 5 Podcasts promoting my book or website

I am being featured on five podcasts to promote my book or website.

There are a ton of financial, millennial, and money related podcasts. I’m hoping to get some interviews with them and grow my brand. Any recommendations let me know!

Publish 12 More Books

I am publishing 12 new books on Amazon.

One book per month! I was able to publish two in 2017 and have a plan thanks to K Money Mastery. Some of the future topics include home owning, motivational, and goal setting. More to come! Some of these will be short, easy to read Kindle e-books.

Start Blog Coaching

I am helping other bloggers and become offering coaching for blogging and e-book creation.

As my site has grown it’s been quite a learning experience and would love to help others. I’ve done several coaching sessions with Millennial Money Man and Kristen from Believe In A Budget and learned a ton. I’d love to share with others.

Publish Book on Amazon Audible

I am learning to format my book, Advice for My Younger Self, to an audible format.

From what I have read it doesn’t seem too difficult but I’ve been dragging my feet. So many people listen to audio instead of reading and need to make it happen asap.

Average $2,000 Per Month Freelance Writing

I am earning $2,000 a month from freelance writing on average in the next 12 months.

I just started freelance writing last month and have enjoyed it. Getting clients is the hard part but writing is fun and I would like to make $2,000 monthly. This amount will pay for all my bills but of course, I’m not opposed to earning more.

Create a Youtube Channel

I am creating a Youtube channel and provide video reviews of blog posts and other helpful content.

Everyone learns differently. While I love writing I think I can make an impact to more people by having a Youtube channel. My goal is to post one new video per week on topics like millennial money issues, motivation, products or book reviews.

*October 2017 Update: Completed – Channel Is Live

Get Featured on Three Big Websites

I am being featured on three major websites.

Any blogger or writer wants to see their work showcased to thousands (or millions) of readers. I want to make a focused effort of being featured on three big sites. My top choices would be Business Insider, Yahoo Finance, and Huff Post.

Create Multiple Paid Courses

I am creating multiple paid courses to help people learn new skills and show them how to make money online.

I have found more value in taking online courses than any class I ever took in college. I’ve learned about coding, blogging, investing and freelancing to name a few. I want to create several courses to help readers accomplish their blogging and financial goals.

Golf Goals

Play or Practice 4 Times Per Week

I am practicing at least four times per week and practice smarter not harder.

This is usually 6 or 7 days per week so I’m not too worried. With all these other goals I will be busy and have to stay committed to my golf goal.

Win 5 Tournaments

I am winning at least five amateur tournaments on different amateur tours in Arizona and California.

I wanted to win 5 in 2017 and have won two tournaments thus far. My goal is to win another five before I turn 31.

Start a Golf Website

I am creating a golf website to help people improve their game and have more fun playing golf.

I am planning to create a golf website to help golfers improve their games with swing videos, sell apparel, and coordinate events in the Phoenix area.

I’d love to plan birthdays or bachelor parties for in town and out of town guests.

Lifestyle, Travel & Self Development Goals

Travel to three new destinations.

I am traveling to three new places to keep crossing off my bucket list.

Currently, Boston is the only one planned and can’t wait to go in September. My top two destinations are Hawaii and Florida (Harry Potter World).

October 2017 Update: Salt Lake City, Boston, & Dallas

Take Mom to New NFL Stadium

I am taking my mom to a new NFL stadium for her bucket list.

My mom’s bucket list to go to every NFL stadium, isn’t every Mom’s? So far we’ve traveled to Pittsburgh, Chicago, and Boston soon. I’d like to keep our tradition of traveling together to a new city and helping her cross off her bucket list.

*October 2017 Update – Boston for New England Patriots game!

Birthday goals - Goal setting for millennials

Attend Tony Robbins Seminar

I am attending or volunteering at another Tony Robbins seminar.

After attending my first Tony Robbins event in Los Angeles this year I have dramatically changed my life for the positive. Seminars that are fully immersive like his make it easy to make a dramatic shift in your life. Check out my full experience of “Unleash the Power Within.”

Attend 2 New Seminars

I am attending two other seminars to network, learn and meet like-minded people.

This year I will have attended the Tony Robbins seminar mentioned previously and FINCON. FINCON is a financial bloggers conference and I can’t wait to go in October. Excited to meet so many like-minded people!

I wanted to attend Lewis Howes, “Greatness Academy” but had a scheduling conflict. I hope he has another one in the next 12 months as Lewis is one of the most inspirational people to follow.

*October 2017 Update: Attended Jack Canfield 1 Day of Greatness, Success Live, and FINCON.

Keep Volunteering

I am continuing to volunteer at the animal shelter once per week.

This year I started volunteering at the Arizona Animal Welfare League and loved it! It’s great to work with dogs and help them get adopted. I want to continue to volunteer at least one day per week.

Birthday goals - volunteering

Be a Toastmaster

I am practicing my speaking as a Toastmaster.

For those of you who don’t know a “toastmaster” is a free organization that helps members improve their communication, public speaking and leadership skills. Find the closest location to you on their website.

*October 2017 Update – Started attending!

Read 24 Books

I will read at least 24 new books including biographies, personal finance topics, and personal development.

My goal is always one new book per month but sometimes get more. By 31 I want to have read AT LEAST 24 new books. If you need any personal finance book recommendations

  • 5 Money Books to Change Your Life
  • Recommended Reading List

Donate for Thanksgiving

I am feeding at least 25 families for Thanksgiving.

After learning that Tony Robbins goal is to feed one billion people in the next three years I need to step it up. Tony started feeding one family per year when he was 18 years old after his family got help when he was younger. I WILL provide 25 Thanksgiving meals for families in need.

Relationship Goals

I am treating Ms. Super Millennial to a new date or event every other week.

Blogging, writing, golfing, and working out 1-2x per day has never made me busier. I always try to prioritize time with my roommates (Ms. Super Millennial and Munchie) but can always do better.

Travel to Hawaii

I am taking Lori to Hawaii to hike volcanoes and have fun traveling to a new destination.

Ms. Super Millennial has always wanted to go so I want to be able to treat her to an awesome vacation.

Start Selling on Shopify

I am selling items on Shopify for my golf website and several other ideas.

Lori and I are the crazy dog people, no doubt about it. We’ve had a few friends create products on Shopify and sell. Looking to join and have our dog Munchie pay her end of the rent (jokes).

We also have some funny designs in mind for some fitness products. We will promote on her Instagram as she works on her side hustle as a group trainer. Check out her Instagram here for meal prep and workout ideas here!

Goal Setting Summary

I am beyond excited for the next 12 months. Each time I write goals down I accomplish way more than I don’t. I found my goals for 29 and completed 13 of the 17. My only problem?

Not setting big enough goals.

These 30 should be a good start to an awesome year. Hopefully, you can find inspiration from these and start crushing your goals!

Did I miss anything on my goals list? What are your thoughts about goal setting?

This is a great post. I’ll be 30 in less than a year, but this has inspired me to set goals now. I really want to finish a novel I started writing and I think if I set small goals to get there, I can publish it before the year is up.

I feel like I could’ve written this myself as I’m turning 30 in a few days (or 29 again, depending on who you ask), and I have a lot of the same goals in mind for myself. I never thought to write them down to help keep track or keep myself accountable by sharing them with others, but that’s such a great idea! Good luck and happy birthday!
