In today’s writing Wednesday episode, we’re going to talk about three ways to use the law of attraction to help you land freelance writing clients!
What is LOA and how can you use it to your advantage?
Today, I’m talking about LOA – law of attraction. The LOA is a mindset tactic that when utilized will help you attract the things that you want into your life.
For example, when you buy a new car, it seems like right after that, those cars are everywhere. When in reality, they were always there, but your attention was not on them. When you use your reticular activating system correctly, and always keep at the forefront of your mind what you want, you’re going to find situations in your life to, to eventually make those things true.

You are listening to inspire your success podcast. Episode number one Oh two, and today’s writing Wednesday edition. We’re going to talk about three ways to use the law of attraction to help you land freelance writing clients coming up.
Speaker 2 (00:17):
Hi, I’m Michael Leonard and I built a full time online writing business that offers me the freedom to never go back to a cubicle in a nine to five. If you’re like most people you want to make more money to pay off debt, have more freedom travel and actually enjoy your life. Whether you want to earn $500 per month as a side hustle or scale writing business to five figures per month and quit your job. Making money as a writer has never been easier in this podcast. I want to inspire your success as a freelancer and show you how I 10 X my income in one year and made $20,000 in one month as a freelance writer. If I can do it, I know you can too. Thanks so much for being here.
Speaker 1 (01:02):
All right, welcome back to inspire your success podcast. This is your host, Michael Leonard, and as always thank you for tuning in with me today. And hopefully you guys had a strong month of June. We are coming up at the end of it here. Um, it’s really hard to believe we are half way through the year. I know I talk about a lot, but man, I remember setting goals in December. Now, all of a sudden we’ve had in the world shut down. We’ve had all kinds of stuff going on. So now it’s already the end of June, but again, just want to send out all my gratitude. The show keeps growing and it doesn’t do that without you sharing it and helping me out and listening and tuning in. So I’m thrilled. It is so valuable and I really just appreciate you so much for tuning in.
Speaker 1 (01:47):
And again, we want to get this to millions of people. Uh, so if there is any way you could share it with a friend, family, employee, coworker, team member, uh, anyone that you think he gets some value, please do it would mean the world. Um, and if you don’t know anyone yet, um, I mean you just want to help the show out, please again, leave us a review on Apple podcast. Uh, we found that the more reviews you get, the higher, they tend to rank it. And again, want to get this content out to more and more freelancers writers, entrepreneurs, and really anyone that’s just looking for a little bit of inspiration. So thank you again and again, we’re going to jump into writing Wednesday. And so before I do that, always want to share a random factory that you guys haven’t really done it.
Speaker 1 (02:31):
The last few episodes, we’ve, uh, a busy, busy few, uh, weeks of content coming out and, uh, wanted to make sure that I got you a one random new fact for me today. So I had to pull in the memory bank here and really think about a random facts to share. So today, uh, it was a really funny story. Um, my first time skydiving, um, I did actually right before I graduated college and I decided to do it on a bet. That’s right after a few cocktails the night before me and a few friends decided that it’d be a good idea to go skydiving the next day. And so we committed and made it happen. And then we woke up and we’re like, Oh my gosh, we’re really gonna do this. Uh, we drove way down South almost to the Tijuana border there and, uh, jumped out of a plane after getting Jack in the box.
Speaker 1 (03:21):
So, um, yeah, bold strategy and, uh, had a lot of fun survived. Um, and then I did it again, uh, with, uh, Laurie for her birthday probably about four years ago. And, um, it was a fun time, but it was a little risky. There was a lot of wind. Uh, so if you’ve ever been skydiving, you know, that is absolutely terrifying. But, uh, my, I am someone that has, can say I’ve jumped out of two planes and survived. So you’ve ever skydived, you know, it’s pretty scary, but exciting. So, uh, that’s my random fact for today. So I’m in the writing Wednesday episode though, uh, wanted to really get into how to manifest clients and how to create some new opportunities in your writing business. And so, you know, even before I get into that, you might be like, wait, what are you talking about?
Speaker 1 (04:07):
I don’t know. I don’t even know what manifesting is. I don’t know what the law of attraction. Again, if you’re listening to this, you might, you might have some background. You might have none. Um, you know, a few years ago I was the least woo person out there. Um, I didn’t meditate, I didn’t do anything. Um, now I, you know, meditate hypnotherapy, go to seminars, events, walk on fire with Tony Robbins, work with spiritual coaches and everything else. And so I get a lot of this from my mentor, James Wedmore. Um, he coined it, the, uh, Wedmore woo. And, uh, you know, that’s really what I talk about a lot too, uh, with my students inside freelance to 5k and really with just a lot of the stuff I put out, because mindset is everything. And, you know, a lot of people just think you have to work hard and hustle.
Speaker 1 (04:53):
Um, but if you listen to episode number 99, I talk about why hustling is not really the answer. I mean, you do need to work, um, quote unquote hard, but you don’t need to kill yourself in the process. So today I want to talk about some, some of the woo woo. Some of the ways that I’ve attracted clients. Um, and some of my students have as well, um, in not as traditional of ways. So let’s kind of jump into that and we’ll link to an article as well that I wrote on medium to kind of give you some ideas. But again, what we’re really talking about here is being intentional. We’re really talking about getting clear about who you want to work with and figuring out ways to make that happen. So let’s jump in. All right. So the absolute starting point here, if you’re, if you’re brand new to manifesting and what the law of attraction is, let’s keep it really, really simple.
Speaker 1 (05:42):
Basically you’re using your mind to attract the things that you want into your life, because what you focus on is what you get. And a really good example of this, that Tony Robbins used when I was at his seminar, it really made sense was, um, basically think about like this, when you buy a new car, say, um, you know, for, in my instance, I bought a, uh, blue, black BMW back in, uh, was that 2017? It seemed like right after that, I saw those cars everywhere. When in reality, they were always there, but my attention was on them. So I was constantly focused on them. And there’s a part of your brain known as the reticular activating system. And basically if you think about something constantly, you’re going to find situations in your life to, to eventually make that true. And so that’s why a lot of people will notice that maybe with a set of clothes they’re wearing or a car they just bought or something like that is that you’re basically putting intention out into the universe and are really trying to focus on that.
Speaker 1 (06:44):
Because again, you have all this information that is just hits your senses all the time, all of this news and content and, and stuff. And so it really, our mind filters out a lot of the stuff we’re working on. So what can happen though, is if you use your reticular activating system to help you get what you want, some magic can happen, but the first step is getting clear about the type of client that you want to work with. That is step one. So when I got started, I wanted to work with personal finance websites because I was a personal finance writer. I loved finances. I had, um, you know, some experience there, but I had major imposter syndrome. I didn’t think I was good enough to write about personal finance, cause I didn’t have millions of dollars in the bank. I didn’t have any fancy degree.
Speaker 1 (07:32):
Um, so what I did is I decided to start a little smaller and go for local personal financial advisors here in Scottsdale, in the Phoenix area. So instead of going to massive websites like credit karma, or, uh, some wallet hacks and all those other things out there, I decided to kind of start small. And so pretty quickly I landed a few jobs and really started to gain momentum. And then from there eventually I went from personal finance to self improvement. Um, and I became a top motivational writer for fearless motivation. And when I was thinking about it, I’m like, how did I, you know, get clients and really manifest and create these basically out of thin air. Um, and then I kind of looked back at what I was doing and I realized, Whoa, okay. I got really clear about who I wanted to work with and anyone can do this because again, where you place your attention is what you’re going to attract back in your life.
Speaker 1 (08:27):
Think about it like this. Your mind is a magnet. You are attracting everything that you’re thinking back at you. So if you’re thinking negative things and all the worst case scenarios, you’re going to attract that back. But if you’re thinking about all the good things and you’re staying grateful and appreciative and thinking about what you want in life, you’re going to attract that back as well. And I’m sure you’ve had instances like this in your life, whether you were intentionally trying to manifest or create or not, the law of attraction is basically like gravity. It doesn’t matter if you believe in it not, this is how it’s going to work. So you can not believe in gravity, but if you jump, you’re going to fall. So it’s the same thing with the law of attraction. So the thing is you want to use it to your advantage and you can use it even as a writer, but again, it all starts with getting clear so you can figure out what you want to create.
Speaker 1 (09:13):
So if you aren’t sure where to begin, think about it. Like this first thing I would think about is the type of clients. Who do you want to work with? Do you want to work with personal finance bloggers? Like I did. Do you wanna work with entrepreneurs? Do you want to work with fitness websites? What is it get clear on your niche and the type of clients that you want to work with in great detail. I’m talking like as much detail as you can. Um, the more detailed, the better. I love this quote from Jack Canfield. He always says vague goals, equal vague results. So your mind really wants specificity. It really wants you to narrow down what it should be focusing on. So it can help you attract that back into your life. So that’s the first thing is the type of clients. Then think about the projects you want to work on.
Speaker 1 (09:59):
You know, what type of content do you want to create blog posts? Do you want to have email sequences? Do you want to create an online course for someone? Do you want to write motivational videos? I mean, I’ve gotten paid all kinds of ways as a content writer. I’m in all of those I just mentioned and a lot more. So again, think about the type of client, the space they’re in and the projects then think about the relationship that you want. You know, for, for me, I hated having a boss in the nine to five world. So what really was cool with freelance writing is I didn’t have anyone standing over me and telling me, Hey, do this, do that. Like they just basically, you know, they might be in another state or another country and this just say, Hey, do this, hit this deadline and get it done.
Speaker 1 (10:39):
That is my kind of, um, you know, autonomy that I don’t want. I don’t want micromanaging. And so I wrote this stuff all down in a journal. I thought, man, I want these clients that pay me well. And they, they let me work on projects and they just let me do my thing and they just stay out of it. And I submit great stuff that they love. Then you can think about what kind of pay, you know, how much are you charging? Are you doing a per word? Are you doing a monthly retainer? Think about that. Like, just imagine this. And again, you might not have any clients yet. That’s okay. You have to start by just writing all this stuff down and thinking about it in great detail. Think about what it would really be like, like what the relationship is, how much they’re going to pay you when they’re going to pay you.
Speaker 1 (11:21):
If you get raises from there, you want to nail it down and think about the feeling that is going to vibrate. The highest it’s gonna attract the fastest. So how you feel about things will help you get that back into it. So if you feel really bad, you’re going to attract really bad things. If you’ll really good, you’re going to attract that back as well. So think about how you feel when you’re writing for these clients. Do you feel good? Are you excited? Are you having fun? Do you feel like you’re making a difference in the world? Whatever it is, focus on what writing for other people, what that feeling do. And then finally, you know, think about the acknowledgement like w maybe you’re going to have people emailing. You say, wow, this is amazing work. Or maybe people read it or you have a blog post for someone that goes viral or whatever it is.
Speaker 1 (12:06):
Think about what it will be like to complete a project, get paid. And then also get some acknowledgement, some kudos, you know, some sort of compliment. Maybe it’s a bonus or something else. Think about this in detail, really mapping out your ideal client will help you avoid searching for job boards and Upwork all the time. And instead, make it really clear to your mind what you want to achieve. I love this quote from Stephen Covey. He talks about it. He says to begin with the end in mind means to start with a clear understanding of your destination. It means to know where you’re going so that you better understand where you are now. And so that steps you take are always in the right direction. So again, step one, guys is getting really, really clear, write all of this down, put it in a journal, maybe create a document on your Google drive, whatever you prefer to do, but get clear.
Speaker 1 (13:02):
And that is step one. Step number two is to act as if you already have these clients. Now, I learned about this principle in one of my favorite books, ever the success principles by Jack Canfield and the reason this is so effective is because your subconscious mind doesn’t know the difference between what is real versus what is imagined. So when you act as if you already have something like a freelance writing client or a ton of freelance writing clients, you trick your mind in a good way to actually believing that it’s happening. So when you act as if you already have something like your ideal client, your mind will help you actually attract that into your life, by acting as if you become the type of person who is capable of creating what you want in your business, doing this will help trigger that reticular activating that I talked about earlier and help you start to find things in your life to make this happen.
Speaker 1 (14:01):
Plus it will make your confidence or which will help you take more action. So here’s some ways that you can act as if you already have clients. The first way is to write in a journal. So journaling is a very powerful technique that I’ve used. Um, my mentor, Benjamin Hardy talked about it and really got me into it in 2018. Um, but journaling is a great way to positively trick your subconscious mind. So here’s a way you can do it. You can write out things like I am so grateful for all my clients or I am so proud of myself for landing all these new clients, even if it’s not true yet again, your subconscious mind doesn’t know the difference between what is real and what is imagined. So by writing it as if it’s already done with enough repetition, you are tricking your mind into believing you already have the clients.
Speaker 1 (14:51):
Then you will take more inspired action to actually land these clients. The second way to act as if is to use affirmations. So guys, when I first started writing, I had a sticky note on my computer that said, I am easily making $1,000 a week as a writer. I read that post it note more times than I can count. And each time I did, I imagined what it be like to pay all of my bills from writing and you know what eventually it became true. And I began to make double that and more in less than a year. Another cool example of this is a guest that I had on the show, Lisa QMS. And she was on the show. I think it was back in like January, February. And she went from zero to six figures writing on Upwork in a year. And you know what?
Speaker 1 (15:41):
She used this exact strategy. She said that before she had anything, before she had any clients and made any money, she talked about having clients before she did each day, she would tell her partner, she was working with clients who paid her rate and gave her amazing projects by affirming as possible, out loud. It actually helped her get there. That is so cool because I didn’t know other people had done this. Uh, I’m sure they had it. I hadn’t actually talked to them. And when she said that, I was like, wow, this stuff works again, guys. Your mind is a magnet. Put this good stuff out there, even if it’s not true yet, keep repeating it and feeling it because again, repetition is how you retrain your subconscious mind and eventually help you get what you want. And finally, the last way to act as if you already have freelance writing, clients is visualization.
Speaker 1 (16:35):
Visualization. Again is basically something that I’ve done in several different ways. I’ve done it with hypnotherapy. I’ve done just sitting on a couch and visualizing, um, there’s a lot of ways to do it. But for example, again, when you are imagining something, you are again, tricking your brain to make it work for you. So professional athletes do this all the time. So you can do this as a writer as well. You know, athletes do this when they’re practicing free throws or when they’re hitting golf shots or they’re throwing a football, whatever it is, athletes use visualization. Because again, your subconscious doesn’t know the difference between what’s real and what’s imagined. So if you sit there and you close your eyes and you imagine what it’s like to get, wake up and you get paid and you check your inbox and clients are emailing you and they’re loving your work.
Speaker 1 (17:21):
And you’re just thinking about it and visualizing it. And you’re feeling it with emotion that will absolutely help you attract these clients into your life. As Wayne Dyer said, act as if everything you desire is already here, treat yourself as if you already are what you’d like to become. This stuff works. So again, just a quick recap of step two, journal, use affirmations and speak your future into existence and use visualization. Finally, step number three guys is to take inspired action. Look, I’m all about the law of attraction. I’m all about using my mind and using your mind to get what you want in life. But none of this works. If you just sit on the couch and think about it, okay? The remember the last six letters of attraction spell action sitting around is rarely going to help you attract your ideal client. Instead use these first two steps and then do everything in your power to get your offer in front of more people, whether that’s creating samples for your ideal clients, going on job boards, updating your Upwork profile, using LinkedIn, building a writing website, going on social media, asking for referrals, whatever it is, take inspired action.
Speaker 1 (18:41):
If you get a hunch, if you are maybe waking up in the morning and all of a sudden you get a hunch to go on Upwork, or you get a hunch to check out a job board, follow it. That’s your intuition. It is speaking to you. It is trying to help you out because if you’ve done the first two steps, your intuition will work through you to help you get what you want in life. But again, you got to take inspired action. You can’t just sit there and hope everything magically finds you. But again, that can happen. I’ve had that happen as well, but at the same time, I want to set you up for success. I don’t want you to just sit around meditating and hoping for millions of dollars, right? I want you to get out there, program your mind for what you want, and then take inspired action.
Speaker 1 (19:19):
As Jack Canfield said, if you want to achieve results, you can not only work on your internal world, but you also must take action. So again, guys, I’m so fired up because I want to share some of this stuff because it’s worked for me and I know it can work for you. And even though if it feels a little out there and some people are like, Whoa, I’ve never thought about this. Just remember your mind is a magnet and how you use it can determine whether you’re successful or not. It can determine if you’re hitting your goals or you’re not. It can determine how you feel if it’s feeling good and feeling great, or if you feel terrible, your mind is so, so powerful. And unfortunately no one ever gave us a manual to show us how to make this stuff work. So I’ve been very fortunate to be a personal development writer, um, to learn a lot of this stuff on my own, go to hypnotherapy meditation, seminars, workshops, and work with people like Jim Fortin and James Wedmore.
Speaker 1 (20:10):
So again, this Wedmore Wu and the [inaudible], um, that people talk about it works. And so if you don’t want to do it, you don’t have to, I’m not telling you to do it. Uh, but I am inviting you to try it out because again, what got you here, won’t get you to where you want to go. So sometimes you gotta mix it up. And so if this is hard for you to believe, you don’t really understand it yet. Just keep an open mind. That’s all I say again, I never would push anything specific on every single person. I just want to share. What’s worked for me and my guests on the show. And finally guys, if you’re listening to this on the last day, on the 25th, when it’s live, um, just a quick reminder, if you want some more Wedmore Wu in your life, and you want to build an online business more than just with writing, make sure to enroll in the business.
Speaker 1 (20:55):
ByDesign again, registration closes on the 25th. You’re not going to want to miss it. It is the best online business program to build an online brand that I’ve ever taken. And you can be inside it with me and thousands of other amazing digital CEOs, uh, to help you really learn how to create a successful business from the inside out. So again, just a quick reminder, it’s the last day to enroll. It’s not going to be opening again until next June. He only opens it once a year. Um, but again, it’s the best money I’ve ever spent. It’s the best investment I’ve ever spent in my business. And again, it’s helped me, um, create this podcast and all kinds of other stuff that’s helped inspire and, uh, get others to take action. So if you want to have your own personal brand and you want to do what I’m doing in your own niche or in any niche, I mean, again, whatever skill you have, you can absolutely do.
Speaker 1 (21:46):
Make sure to click the link in the show notes, to learn more about James and again, make sure to enroll by the end of the day, if you want to join. Because again, it’s only once per year.
